Caregiving is Not For the Faint of Heart

I’m so glad you stopped by to check out this blog and learn more about this topic.

Let me ask you a few questions:

Are you a compassionate person who cares deeply for the people you love in your life?

Are you a “natural healer” personality type? Discover your personality type here if you are not sure: https://www.16personalities.com/

Do you identify as an “Empath” or “Highly Sensitive Person”?

Do you struggle to keep juggling all the plates in your life?

Do you feel stretched beyond what seems humanly possible as you try to meet all the needs of your family and others in your life who need help?

Do you sacrifice your own self care needs in order to meet the needs of others on a regular basis?

Are you are perceived by others as strong on the outside, but feel broken or exhausted on the inside?

If you or someone you know or love can answer yes to three or more of the questions above, you’ve come to the right place.

I know what it feels like to be broken by life. For fourteen years I was a  full time unpaid caregiver for an injured family member who was in a freak accident, broke his neck and became a quadriplegic. I was also raising our daughter, who was two years old at the time her daddy broke his neck.

I am  also a survivor who experienced multiple breakdowns – physically, emotionally and spiritually during my years of caregiving. After fourteen straight years of 24/7 caregiving, I was a completely fractured human being.

But with God’s help, I’ve found a pathway back to healing and wholeness.

The truth is, the road to my recovery has been long, rough and unpredictable. As I enter my retirement years, I can finally say I’ve discovered multiple tips and tools,  leading to true healing and restoration for body, mind and soul.

I want to offer you the same resources I’ve found over the years, here in this blog.

As a former caregiver, my life purpose today is to share my knowledge with other caregivers who may be experiencing the same burnout and exhaustion I once felt. Some you may be equally desperate for answers as I once was – not from a paid professional trained in psychological theory, but from someone who has been there, bled profusely and lived to tell about it.

My upcoming book, The Beauty of Imperfection, contains a roadmap for restoration and practical resources that focus on repairing broken human hearts and teaching them how to find wholeness again.

The unique approach to inner healing I’ve discovered along my personal journey is based upon the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi (translation: “gold joinery”). This is the art of repairing of broken objects using gold dust mixed with lacquer. I’ve taken that concept and applied it to the repairing of broken hearts.

You may be asking yourself, “If the book is a roadmap from hardship to healing, what is the purpose of this blog?” I’m glad you asked!

It’s simple: this blog is a living repository and compassionate compass to point the way to healing. My hope is to bring together an interactive supportive community of like minded people who can coalesce around the theme of multi-tiered healing from life’s traumatic events that deeply and profoundly impact caregivers and their families.

It includes behind the scenes personal stories from my life that you may relate to and find helpful. Each post focuses on the key life lesson(s) I’ve learned from each experience that you, my dear reader can apply to you own life if you choose to do so.

If even ONE of my difficult life experiences can help just ONE person heal or find answers they haven’t found elsewhere, I truly believe that everything I have been through in life will have been well worth it. EVERYTHING.

As a former full time caregiver, I have overcome many hardships and tragedies.

Through it all, I have been forced by personal circumstances to rebuild my life from scratch, more than once.

Throughout my years of caregiving, I’ve documented the lessons learned from each  challenge. If not for a strong personal faith in God, and the support of family and close friends, I could have lost my sanity or my life a long time ago!

If this message resonates with you friend, I’m glad you are along for the ride. it is my sincere hope and prayer that you’ll find something in the pages of this blog that will help you overcome, offer you strength, hope and courage to face each new day with renewed determination.

You are not here by accident. God created you for a specific purpose and He has led you to this blog for a purpose. You are special. You are worthy to live a full and happy life. You are a survivor. You are strong, courageous and have the heart of a warrior.

How do I know all this, even though we may not know each other personally? I know this because I was once where you are now and I am here for the sole purpose of coming alongside you to support and guide you through the often confusing, overwhelming and obstacle filled path of caregiving.

I know it’s a tough job to do what you do on a daily basis and maintain your sanity. But I want you to know I am here for you friend, for the long haul, no matter what your current challenges may be.

If you are currently a full time caregiver, are you caring for a child, a spouse, a parent or another family member or friend? What is your loved one’s current physical or mental condition? How long have you been caring for them?
